Each night they will follow their new Routine Charts, complete with icons to help them out. Commit them to memory. The idea behind the chart was to help eliminate as many of the usual excuses as possible.

Both Tyler and Jess each get two "Get out of bed FREE" cards. The rules with these cards are they only get two chances to get out of bed, and if they go beyond that, they will "owe" us a card the next night. If neither of the cards are used they can "earn" an additional card. Only ever being able to own 3 per night.
The first night Jessica was ready. Had her cards. Went thru the routine. Did some reading out of 2 Samuel, and Psalm. Started to leave the room and asked her "anything else?" She replied: "YES! What do I do with these cards again??!" I just told her that you have two, and Tyler has two...try to beat him and have two in the morning, still. She understood that!! And did quite well. I never heard a peep from her.
Tyler on the other hand, came down with coupon in hand, to inform us that he couldn't find the other coupon. We just laughed and explained that he could still have ONE, two even if he stayed in bed and found the lost one, but instead just lost his ONLY good card to come talk to us. First night grace period allowed him to have both coupons back. And he, too, never got back out of bed.
So far so good people. If you have this issue too, try it. It seems to be working QUITE well!!

Great idea! I love the little cartoon and saying you have on the bottom of the routine list!
What do we do in our family if Ezra gets out of bed more than necessary--- Old fashion whoopins.=)
